SIE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLS THE CLUSTER OF THE LOPEZ-NEYRA INSTITUTE OF PARASITOLOGY (CSIC)
Last June 7th and 8th, Sistemas Informáticos Europeos, launched the new SIE Ladon cluster of the López-Neyra Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine (IPBLN) of the CSIC of Granada.
This cluster will be mainly used for the storage and analysis of the sequences obtained through the new Illumina Nextseq 500 and Illumina MySeq sequencers recently installed at the IPBLN. This equipment, assumes the embryo, for growth in the future calculation system.
It has a total of 128 cores (256 processes) and 512 GB of RAM, based on Intel Broadwell technology and Intel Server S2600TPFR platforms, which can work together, thanks to the 3 Gb Mellanox Infiniband FDR Connect-x 56 interconnection /s in low latency.
The SLURM (workload management) queue system, in the new version 17.02 (February 2017), makes it possible to make the most of the computing capacity, while simplifying the distribution of tasks among all the nodes. This load sharing system is used in 5 of the 10 largest supercomputers in the world, as well as in centers such as the BSC (mare nostrum). This allows IPB researchers to launch their calculations in one of the most widespread environments.
In addition, it incorporates an initial storage of 89 TB of net capacity. This repository is managed from a server, which allows global disk export, through the BeeGFS system, which equips this data capacity in a single server, in addition to a 480 GB metadata area, based on new Micron 5100 disks. MAX, which have a daily "endurance" of 5 times their capacity.
The ecosystem SIE Ladon OS 7 v 9, based on Centos 7.3 (100% compatible with Red Hat), allows easy administration, with monitoring tools such as Ganglia, MK check (based on Nagios), as well as application deployment, all of them Open Source. The equipment includes a 3-year warranty, with remote and telephone support.
The system is ready to grow, within the same rack, up to 1.000 processing nodes and up to 1 PB of storage capacity.
In the words of the head of the Bioinformatics Unit, Dr. Eduardo Andrés León, the choice of SIEas an HPC system integrator, it is due to its 18-year experience in projects in this field, the training and professionalism of the installation team and the wide range of configuration possibilities that SIE offers, which allows us to install a high-end computing system. performance both for the analysis of samples of parasites, as well as higher organisms.
SIE is a company with extensive experience in scientific calculation systems, with a large number of installations and projects carried out successfully. He has been a partner of Intel for many years and is currently an Intel Technology Provider Platinum Level.
In addition, it is certified as Intel HPC Specialist and Gigabyte Integrator in Spain. He has carried out projects that provide up to 2 Pflops of computing power, both in CPU, Intel Phi and NVDIA GPU environments.
We are suppliers of HPC systems (cluster, calculation and storage machines) of the CSIC since 1999.
