GlusterFS Storage

GlusterFS is a scalable network filesystem. Using common off-the-shelf hardware, you can create large, distributed storage solutions for media streaming, data analysis, and other data- and bandwidth-intensive tasks. GlusterFS is free and open source software.

he need for intensive computing systems require a special distributed file system in many ways. The high demands on performance, scalability and fault tolerance hardware in these environments, have led to the creation of solutions that today have a clear transfer not so demanding environments, such as medicine, navigation, genomics, Gluster File System , or Gluster File System GlusterFS is a multiscalable for NAS file system initially developed by Gluster Inc. This allows you to add multiple file servers over Ethernet or Infiniband RDMA interconnect environment in a large parallel network file. GlusterFS design is based on the use of user-space and thus does not compromise performance. They can be found being used in a variety of environments and applications such as cloud computing, biomedical sciences and file storage. The GlusterFS is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. Gluster Inc was the main commercial sponsor of GlusterFS, which offers both commercial products and support development of free solutions based on GlusterFS. In October 2011, the acquisition of Gluster Inc. was announced. GlusterFS Red Hat Inc. The interaction is based on the client and server components. Servers typically are implemented as block storage on each server daemon process glusterfsd export a local file system as a volume. The GlusterFS client process is connected to servers through some TCP/IP, InfiniBand or SDP, composes virtual compounds volumes from multiple remote servers through the use of translators. By default, files are stored integers, but can also be configured to fragment into multiple portions on each server. Volumes can be mounted on the client computers using the FUSE module or accessed through the client library libglusterfs without incurring problems with the file system Most of the functionality of GlusterFS is implemented as translators,
● Mirroring and replication of files.
● Fragmentation of files or Data striping.
● Load balancing for reading and writing files.
● Fault tolerant volumes.
● Planning I/O and disk caching.
● Storage quotas
● The GlusterFS server is kept minimally simple: export an existing file system as it is, leaving translators client side storage structure. Customers themselves are handled independently, do not communicate directly with each other, and translators manage the consistency of data between them. The GlusterFS is based on an elastic hash algorithm instead of using a centralized or distributed metadata model. Since version 3.1, the volumes can be added, removed or migrated dynamically, this helps to provide consistency problems, and allows the GlusterFS can be scaled to multiple petabytes on low cost hardware, thus avoiding bottlenecks usually affect many distributed file systems with multiple concurrency.
