THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: LADON OS 7.2
Sistemas Informáticos Europeos Following the criteria of offering open source middlware, based on Centos 7.2, it has decided to license LadonOS 7.2 in CC4, which allows its free use in facilities to all our researchers, as well as the collaboration of administrators and users of Universities and Public Centers.
The most recent version released is LadonOS 7.2Ja, which has a lot of improvements, among which we want to highlight :
- Based on Centos 7.2 which is 30% faster, it is optimized for the new Intel Xeon Broadwell flags and provides much more security (FIREWALLD), all thanks to the new 3.10.x kernel. It also allows files of up to 500 TB
- Migrating from OpenGrid to SLURM – Big step with migrating traditional queuing environments to Slurm Workload. The latter presents a very important leap compared to the previous ones, since it has an infinite number of components, policies, options and configurations. Reference centers such as BSC use the SLURM system in their clusters.
- Implementation in development of services RCUDA, which allows you to use NVDIA GPUs as cluster resources. From a practical point of view, it means that the cluster is seen as a CUDA system, even though there is only one node that has this technology and the others only have CPUs.
- BEEGFS, the great alternative to Luster: Open source, easy to implement, without large hardware resources, installable from a single cabin, better performance than other alternatives. It is ideal for clusters between 5 and 100 nodes and does not require a dedicated sysadmin to maintain.
In addition, SIE is the official support of Thinkparq (the spinoff linked to the University of Fraunhofer) and we offer levels 1 and 2 in Spanish.
