Restoration of Posidonia meadows and virtual simulation of their growth

The calculations carried out by IFISC within the SuMaECO project are of great ecological interest in Mallorca, since they simulate the growth of posidonia meadows.

These underwater plants are vital for the subsistence of the seabed and the fixation of sand in these environments, as well as providing food and shelter for many species of fish and other animals in our Mediterranean Sea.

A team of researchers from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Physics and Complex Systems IFISC (CSIC-UIB), led by Dr. Pere Colet and formed by the researchers Dr. Massimiliano Zanin, Alex Gimenez and Pablo Moreno, have made real tests with their programs and calculations on CUDA, in the team Sie Ladon GPU Romebased on the Gigabyte G492-Z50 with the full range of the new NVIDIA Ampere cards: A100, A6000 and RTX3090, with real-world comparisons of the calculations they perform.
