The HPC industry evolves with the paradigm of EDGE or edge or edge servers, also known as edge servers. Edge Computing is a distributed computing concept that brings computing and data storage closer to the location where it is needed to improve response times and reduce the need for bandwidth, especially in environments where connectivity It is only possible through a direct connection by WIFI, because the connection networks in the cloud are not available or are of very low quality.
These are servers with special characteristics:
1st They usually have a single processor and a GPU, so their consumption is lower (from 300 W depending on configurations)
2º They are very short servers (less than 46 cm deep and standard 19 ”, which can be integrated in communications racks or in intermediate Data Centers, where data is collected from IoT devices, closer than large servers by Cloud
3rd They allow a lower investment (from € 2,500 without GPU and € 3,500 with GPU), complete configurations
4th They are designed to work in harsher conditions, since they support up to 35º C and both the sources and the fans are redundant and hot-swappable.
5º All the disks that they equip are SSD and both these, as the communication cards are accessible from the front
SIE Ladon Edge servers offer compact design, high efficiency and flexibility
The environments to which they are intended are:
5G environment
Integration in the development of autonomous cars
Investigadores del CVC (Centro de Visión por Computador) con un coche autónomo potenciado con una maquina de cálculo SIE LADON
Challenges projects such as the one developed by SIE as group leader together with the people of the UPV and Nutricontrol, to collect data from IoT devices in greenhouses
Collecting digital signals
Live UHD video streaming
